Author Shelley Pearsall will visit Monroe Local Schools on March 11-12. She will meet with students in the fifth grade and students in the eighth grade. The students will read her book, Trouble Don't Last before her visit. The book tells the story of eleven-year-old Samuel's journey on the Underground Railroad. Trouble Don't Last won the 2003 Scott O'Dell Award for Historical Fiction and is a 2009 Choose to Read Ohio Community Read selection.   Shelley Pearsall will introduce the concept of historical fiction writing. She will discuss how primary source documents were used to write the book. Students will then create a brief character sketch of their own. Monroe Local Schools received a Learning Links grant from the Cincinnati Foundation to pay for the author visit.
