The Monroe High School Girls Cross Country program crossed another item off of their "to-do" list on Saturday when they had multiple participants reach the podium at the State Meet for the first time in school history. This comes only a year after then Junior Alayna Garver and Sophomore Rachel Ploeger became the first ever State Qualfiiers for the Girls Cross Country Program.
Fast forward to the 2016 State Meet held on Saturday, November 5 at National Trail Raceway in Hebron, Ohio both Garver (now a senior) and Ploeger (now a junior) had their eyes on not only qualifying for the event but also reaching the awards stand. That dream became a reality when Rachel Ploeger finished in 7th place overall with a time of 18:22.2 and Alayna Garver finished in 20th place with a time of 18:55.4. 177 runners particpated in this year's Girls Division II State Championship Race while the top 20 reach the awards podium.
Shared Monroe Head Coach Seth Darrell following the meet, "qualifying two to the State Meet and then putting two on the podium, what more can you ask for? They both deserved to be on the podium with the hard work that they have put in this season. They definately made a statement are making a name for our program."
