Thursday, February 9 was a memorable senior night for the Monroe Hornets Girls Basketball program. Not only did the program recognize their lone senior (Karley Gescuk) prior to the start of their Southwestern Buckeye League match up with Brookville but they followed that up 63-22 victory. The victory concludes the Hornets regular season schedule with an overall record of 18-4 - the program's best record since the 2002-03 season.
The Hornet's 18th win of the season also ties a school record for wins set during the 2002-03 season.
Head Coach Chad Allen shared, "tying the school record (with a chance to break it next week) is the result of a group of athletes who have put in countless hours of hard work. It shows the team, the program, the youth girls and the community what happens when you establish a goal and work hard at accomplishing that goal."
Coach Allen continued, "this is group has had the opportunity to be together for 2/3 years. Growing and developing as a team. They work hard for themselves but also for their teammates. They also have accepted their roles knowing that each role is extremely important to the success of the team. They have also put in extra time during the off season and you see the results of that hard work."
The Hornets have an opportunity to establish a new mark for wins in a season on Thursday, February 16 when they open posteason play in their Division II OHSAA Sectional Tournament. The Hornets will face Dayton Dunbar High School at Lebanon High School, tip off is 7:30pm.
