Hornet Announcer Dave Grant Has Collegiate Tryout

The University of Kentucky recently discovered what Monroe Hornet fans already know, Dave Grant, the voice of Monroe High School Varsity Football, Boys Basketball and Baseball games is an extraordinary talent when it comes to the microphone! Dave was recently invited down to the Southeastern Conference school in Lexington, Kentucky for an audition on Wednesday, August 2. The tryout was held at UK's John Cropp Stadium, home to the Wildcats' Softball Program.

Dave found out about the tryout through a friend here in Monroe who follows UK on social media when he tagged him in their post regarding open tryouts for announcers. The University of Kentucky has had success holding open tryouts in the past,  which is how they found their current baseball and softball announcer.

At the tryout, Dave was asked to perform two separate tasks, 1) announce the starting lineups for a girls softball game between Louisiana State University and UK and 2) announce an in game contest - all of this while nobody was on the field or in the stadium.

While ultimately, Dave made it to the final round, he wasn't selected for the position this time. Nevertheless the Hornet faithful will once again be glad to hear Dave behind the mic during the 2017-18 school year announcing various Monroe Hornet events!

Dave shared, "the whole experience was a good one. I was nervous at first to be announcing in such a big venue, but when I started talking into the mic I felt at home. I would definitely do It again, and feel honored that I made it as far as the final cuts."
