Wednesday, October 4 was an historic day for Monroe Sophomore Golfer Alex Gomia. Participating in the OHSAA Sectional Golf Tournament at the Division I level for the first time in school history, Alex shot an 18-hole round of 83 and bested Princeton Senior Grant Lohmeier in a playoff at Miami Whitewater Golf Course to advance to the OHSAA District Championship on Thursday, October 12.
This was the first time the Hornets had participated at the Division I level after being bumped up from Division II for the 2017-18 school year. OHSAA divisional placements are determined by student enrollment counts provided to the OHSAA by the Ohio Department of Education.
Gomia, who has led the Hornets throughout the 2017 season becomes the first Boys Division I District Qualifer in any sport in school history.
