Boys and Girls Cross Country Qualify For Regional Meet

Monroe High School Cross Country history was made on Saturday, October 14, 2017 as both the Boys and Girls Cross Country teams qualified for the OHSAA Regional Cross Country Meet. This is the first time in school history both the Boys and Girls teams qualified for the Regional Meet in the same season. 

Competing at the OHSAA District Cross Country Championships held at Voice of America Park in West Chester on Saturday, October 14, the Girls were led by Senior Rachel Ploeger who finished in 1st Place overall as the Individual Champion with a time of 18:11.06. Sophomore Emily McMurry was the next Hornet to cross the finish line with a time of 20:04.38 and in 3rd Place overall. 

As a team the Girls finished in 2nd Place overall as OHSAA District Runners Up with 56 points overall, just 4 points behind District Champion Mariemont.

On the Boys side, Sophomore Christian Leach finished in 2nd Place overall with a time of 16:38.49. He was followed by Freshman Marty Zumbiel who came in with a time of 17:12.72 in 11th Place overall. 

The Boys as a team garnered 92 points and finished in 3rd Place behind District Champion Indian Hill and District Runner Up Badin.  

The OHSAA Regional Cross Country Meet will be held on Saturday, October 28 at Troy Memorial Stadium. Tickets are $7 and the race schedule will be as follows:

  • 11:00am - Division III Girls
  • 11:45am - Division II Girls
  • 12:30pm - Division I Girls
  • 1:30pm - Division III Boys
  • 2:15pm - Division II Boys
  • 3:00pm - Division I Boys
