Home School Process

Thank you for your inquiry regarding Home School Education.

In Ohio, a parent/guardian interested in educating his/her child of compulsory school age at home may request that the child be excused from compulsory school attendance (under section 3321.04 (A)(2) of the Ohio Revised Code) for home education purposes.  Home School Education is an educational delivery that is directed by the parent or guardian of a child who has been excused from attending school.  Under this option, the parent/guardian selects the curriculum and education materials and takes responsibility for educating the child.  There is no state financial assistance for families who choose this option.

If you elect to provide home education for your child, please submit the following to the Superintendent of Monroe Local Schools, 500 Yankee Road, Monroe, Ohio, 45050:

  1. A completed and signed Home Education Notification Form (PDF)
  2. A brief outline of the intended curriculum and list of textbooks to be used.
  3. An Academic Assessment Report (This report is not required for first-year home school students).
Academic Assessment Option #1 (PDF) - Standardized Testing or
Academic Assessment Option #2 (PDF) – Narrative Reporting

Once we receive your notification, the Superintendent will review it within fourteen days.  If everything is in order and all sections correctly completed, the district will forward the excuse from compulsory attendance to you which will be applicable for one school year.
