Dear Athletes and Parents,
On Thursday, May 21, 2020 both Governor DeWine's Office and the Ohio High School Athletic Association announced the responsible restarting of athletics in Ohio. These announcements from both the Governor's Office and the OHSAA does permit the reopening of school facilities (at the discretion of individual school districts) as well as individual skill training for student-athletes to begin as soon as Tuesday, May 26.
We are excited that our student-athletes will soon be able to responsibly resume participation in extracurricular activities. Given the timing of when this information was communicated to member schools, it is not realistic for us to start on May 26. We must ensure that our Administrative Team, Staff, and Coaches have adequate time to prepare and implement the necessary safety protocols and procedures for responsibly reopening our facilities.
Earlier this week, we received recommendations and guidance for the reopening of our facilities from our partners at Premier Health. On Friday, May 22, we received recommendations from the Ohio High School Athletic Association. Following both sets of recommendations, in conjunction with our local authorities, our administration is currently working to put a plan in place to ensure the safest possible “return to play” for all of our students, coaches, and staff.
Once that plan has been approved, more information will be communicated detailing the protocols and procedures that athletes and parents should expect when participating in school-sponsored activities. In the meantime, we continue to encourage all athletes to remain active, safely workout on their own as they are able, and continue to abide by the recommendations of our local and state leaders including the practice of proper social distancing protocols.
