Hearing & Vision Screening
Hearing & Vision Screening
Our district conducts hearing and vision screening to facilitate early detection of health impairments among our students. We follow the Ohio Department of Health mandated vision and hearing screenings. Students in preschool, kindergarten, first grade, third grade, fifth grade, seventh grade, ninth grade, 11th grade, and all new students to the district participate in vision screening. Screening Process
- Staff, along with assistance from local nursing programs, perform hearing and vision screenings during the school year.
- If a student does not pass the screening, we provide a referral to the parent or guardian.
- The referral recommends that the child visit a medical professional for a comprehensive examination.
- The medical professional will determine if any treatment or further evaluation is necessary.
Parental Consent and Waiver
- If there are concerns about a child’s hearing or vision, a screening can be requested by teachers, parents or other school personnel.
- Parents or guardians who do not want their child’s vision and/or hearing screened should send a note to the building’s clinic staff before the scheduled screenings.
- This waiver must be submitted annually if the student is required to undergo screening.
