When to Stay Home
Deciding when to keep your child home from school can be difficult. When a child is sick and needs to stay at home, parents should contact the school attendance line.

It is important for the health of all students, staff and families that your child is not at school when sick. The timing of the absence is often important in order to decrease the spread of disease to others, and to prevent your child from acquiring any other illness while their resistance is lowered.
Please refer to the following CDC guidance to help in determining when your child should stay home from school and return to school.
CDC Communicable Disease Chart
Fever
If your child’s temperature is 100.4° or greater, they should remain home until they have been without fever for a full 24 hours. Remember, fever is a symptom indicating the presence of an illness.
If your child’s temperature is 100.4° or greater while they are at school, you or your designee must come get them. If you are unable to pick up a sick child, the names listed on your child’s emergency sheet will be called to pick up your child.
*All students must have an emergency number on file in case they need immediate medical attention. These numbers need to be updated so that the school will always be able to reach you or your designee in the event of an emergency.
Head Lice
Following lice infestations, your child may return to school after receiving treatment, nits have been removed, there are no live louse, and your clinic staff has been contacted and arrangements have been made for parent and student to see the nurse for a follow-up head lice check before returning to class. Periodic checks may occur.
While your child is at school if a live louse is found, you or your designee must come to get them. If you are unable to pick up a sick child, the names listed on your child’s emergency sheet will be called to pick them up.
